Re: The flops

I was really impressed with Chuli in the English pre-season games that I went to and thought he'd do really well at Betis. Shows you how much I know about football!! A collective lack of confidence throughout the whole team hamstrung a lot of the players all season.

Adam, my vote for goal of the year would be Ruben Castro's chip over the keeper against Rubin Kazan for the 2nd goal. Pretty classy finish that.

bring back patricia! we need a positive influence on the chicos again. i vote for her even though she had long gone before the horrors of the last season unfolded. musho beti

Another goal of the season contender for me would be Salva Sevilla's strike, his first one of two, in the 3-1 win at home v Valencia, a classy one touch build up between several players, and in fact the whole performance made you think it could be a good season but that turned out to be only one of a handful of encouraging displays. I think Salva got a few decent goals this year. Andy, I agree...Saw Chuli at Huddersfield too and I think I posted on here that he looked like a "fox in the box"...: ) : ) ....He did, honestly !! : (

Great shout, Simon - you can see it in the highlights below on exactly 1'00"

And I'd forgotten Rubén's chip in Russia, too. Here from 1'04" after a great run from Leo Baptistao:

I think the Salva goal is the best so far, though.

I agree with Andy and Simon. Chuli looked great at Huddersfield. All be it a Championship team. Still, it was encouraging. Then in the season proper, next to nothing even when he did play. Story of most of the season really.

One of my favourites was Salva's goal, the 2nd, in the away leg in Europe at Sevilla. It just seemed so unlikely and at that point was a huge lift in an otherwise dire season. Good goal too.
